A gorgeous traditional amber Venetian scavo glass ceiling lantern with a steel wire frame and black nickel chains, entirely hand-produced on the famous glass-making island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
The mould for this beautiful lantern is first fashioned from steel wire. The glass-master then blows the molten glass into the frame where it expands into the lovely curved shape you see here, before it is allowed to cool.
A special chemical is used to erode parts of the surface of the glass, to give it the lovely rustic finish you see here.
